    Job Description:
    Performs work as qualified in several of craft skills required to construct, repair and maintain plant equipment, utilities, and buildings and related structures in oriented strand board plant.

    Principal Duties & Responsibilities

    Installs, maintains and repairs mechanical equipment as qualified throughout the plant

    Performs PM (preventative maintenance) to plant mechanical equipment as specified.

    Manufactures parts or equipment to the extent of qualifications as directed by MECHANICAL MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR.

    Tests repaired or newly installed equipment replaces guards, floor grates, etc. and removes all tools, parts, rags, etc.

    Maintains daily record of hours worked in various cost centers.

    Follows checkout procedure when removing items from the storeroom.

    Performs other duties as assigned.

    Requirements & Preferred Competencies

    Must have a High School Diploma or a GED and 3-5 years of experience in maintenance manufacturing

    Ability to work while walking and standing or climbing a considerable portion of the time, often in awkward or strained positions

    Strong problem-solving skills.
    Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    Excellent communication skills.
    Proficiency in using maintenance tools and equipment.
    Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures.

    Must be proficient in the majority of the following areas:

    Troubleshooting most mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

    Aligning chains and sprockets, gears, etc.

    Inspecting and replacing bearings in motors, conveyors, shafts, etc.

    Rebuilding valves, mechanical drives, cylinders, etc.

    Fabricating simple structures, braces, equipment, etc., from steel, sheet metal or wood.

    Pipefitting: screwed, flanged and glued pipe and fittings for air, water, hydraulic and steams systems.

    Rigging with chain falls, jack, forklifts, cranes, scaffolds, etc.

    Electrode welding and acetylene torch cutting.

    Painting: surface preparation through cleanup.

    Insulating building, steam lines, wax lines, etc.

    Must be able to operate portable power tools and standard hand tools.

    Must have the ability to stoop, bend, kneel, and work in heights.

    Must be able to wear hearing protection and respirator required for task being performed.

    Must have the ability to operate heavy equipment such as man-lifts, boom-trucks, and portable cranes.

    Must have ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

    Must know and be able to observe applicable company policies and safe practices.

    Working Conditions

    Works in all inside and outside areas of the plant is exposed to heat, cold, inclement weather, grease, oil and dirty working conditions.

    Work performed while walking and standing or climbing a considerable portion of the time, often in awkward or strained positions.

    Must be able to work in confined spaces.

    Must be able to work rotating shifts, overtime and be on call as required.
