To celebrate Henrietta Lack's birthday, Halifax County Tourism, The Prizery, and Halifax Chapter of the NAACP have partnered to offer a free film screening of "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks." "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" is a powerful drama directed by George C. Wolfe, starring Oprah Winfrey and Rose Byrne. It recounts the remarkable true story of Henrietta Lacks, who was diagnosed with cervical cancer in the 1950s. Her unwitting contribution to science would prove to be transformative, as her cancer cells, known as HeLa, became the foundation for groundbreaking medical research and changed the trajectory of cancer treatment forever. Lacks spent much of her life in the Clover community of Halifax County and is now buried there in the family cemetery. The screening will take place in the Prizery's Banquet Hall. Doors open at 5, and movie begins at 5:30 pm.
